Dr. Antonio Barbera, OB/GYN, cares for his patients through every stage of their pregnancy and he specializes in managing high-risk prenatal conditions. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in maternal fetal medicine and ultrasound diagnostics.
Originally from Cosenza, Italy, Dr. Barbera attended medical school at the University of Messina and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Milan Hospital and the Biomedical Institute San Paolo Hospital where he also completed a fellowship in maternal fetal medicine. Dr. Barbera also had his own practice in Tricase, Italy and was vice-chair of the obstetrics department at the nearby hospital.
Dr. Barbera completed additional fellowships in the United States; one in Portland, Oregon in fetal cardiovascular physiology, and the other in Denver, Colorado in maternal fetal medicine. While he practiced at the Denver Health Women’s Care Clinic, he served as an assistant professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center responsible for the OB/GYN residency program. He is currently assistant professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine and a consultant to the only certified birthing center in Colorado, Mountain Midwifery Center. Dr. Barbera pioneered a technique to assess fetal head descent through the birth canal. He is currently participating in a study to monitor the physiological changes of the cervix during pregnancy and labor to determine the potential causes of pre-term delivery.

I like to care for my patients before, throughout, and following their pregnancies, and throughout their lives.” His philosophy is “…it does not matter having the best tools if you do not have the best people to work with…”
Dr. Barbera speaks Italian, English, Spanish and French. He plays guitar as well as a wide range of percussion instruments. He loves to ski, sail, and ride his bike. Most of all, he enjoys spending time with his two children.
